I served as the Assistant Art Director at Blue Mountain Arts for eight years from 2004 to 2012, Blue Mountain Arts, also SPS Studios, is the original greeting card and motivational book publishing company based in Boulder, CO. The founders, Susan and Stephen credit much of the company's success to the fact that it has never strayed from the principles and beliefs on which it was founded. The warm, communicative style, dense inks, rich colors, and beautiful papers that distinguished the very first Blue Mountain Arts products continue today to make them standouts in the marketplace, filling a very unique and necessary need... that of helping people communicate their feelings and connect with the special people in their lives.
My work at Blue Mountain Arts involved many challenges, both creative and technical: following strict protocols, delivering product by tight deadlines, creating hundreds of styles and genres of greeting cards, calendars, books, and gift items with precision graphic layout. We worked with numerous local and overseas vendors in Thailand, China, Korea, and shipped to customers worldwide. Each item featured customized and individualized typesetting of poetry to ensure no two cards were exactly alike, with sensitive typographic attention, and color correction of all hand-painted artwork to maintain the Blue Mountain Arts brand standard.This work represents a highly specialized subset of my design, layout, aesthetic strategy, and project management skills.
